East Carolina University's Apparel and Interior Merchandising Organization (AIMO for short) is spreading its knowledge, interest and love in the fashion industry! Now that was a mouthful. We hope to make a name for ourselves and post some interesting things along the way. Check out our blogspot: http://tj-lifeasweknowit.blogspot.com |

JEAN PAUL GAULTIER SPRING 2012 COUTURE
Absolutely NOTHING beats couture! Jean Paul Gaultier proves this in his salute to the iconic late Amy Winehouse in his latest collection. Models graced the catwalk in Amy’s signature almost cartoon-like style with cigarettes, big hair, thick eyeliner, and beauty spots galore. Referencing her unique mix of floaty silhouettes, tight bustiers and sportswear, the effect was one of tomboyish femininity. LOVE! Peep some footage from the show (above)
So retro.

Gorgeous.
So, I’d like to start a segment called “Out of My Closet” where I take an old, loved piece and rework it for the current season, or take a recent purchase of mine and show you various styles and price points of them!
This week, I want to take the penny loafer. I know what you’re thinking. ‘Uhh did she just say penny loafer? Like those things my dad used to wear and I’d try to steal the penny from them?” No. I’m talking about the new fashioned, penny loafer heel. With all the charm from the old without that cringe-worthy, slightly tacky, copper penny sticking out.
Personally, I have seen them in just about every department store out there, but I could not imagine forking over $100 for a pair of shoes. I love my fashion, but college must come first. So, I picked mine up at Payless Shoes.
Cute, right? They’re still in store, too! At $39.99, they’re a steal. (Want them?)
There are plenty more options where those came from!
Check out DSW. Their focus is nothing but fashion forward shoes…just on the first page I found two pairs of penny loafers, under $60! (Just click the shoe for more details)
And I’ll give an example from a department store, well America’s department store to be exact ;] Macy’s has wonderful brand names and variety. Plus, they’re incredibly fashion forward (old school Project Runway anyone??), so of course within the first couple pages I was able to find you guys an awesome pair of penny loafers. Kinda want them for myself to be honest…
Can you say adorable? The first pair of wedges I’ve seen. I hope someone snatches them up! Just click the pic for more details.
Until next week… ♡
As you know with the current economic environment, many high fashion designers are trickling down the ranks a little into some of our favorite, more affordable shops. We’ve seen several designers grace the corners of Target such as, Zac Posen, Calypso, Missoni and most recently, Jason Wu. We saw that Jimmy Choo partnered with UGGS to create some stellar designs and now the one and only Versace is partnering with H&M!
Here are some of my favorite looks, pulled from this wonderful slide show. (Source)

According to Krupnick, this is going to hit stores November 17 (Source). I know several girls (myself included) who would love to have some Versace lining their closet and will be going to the closest H&M possible! So don’t miss out! Lines like this may last forever, but they sure won’t be in stores that long.
